Design works in AutoCAD Civil 3D
AutoCAD Civil 3D helps to optimise work on the project thanks to such possibilities, as the geospatial analysis for a choice of a suitable building site, the analysis of storm drains for maintenance of observance of ecological norms, drawing up of the estimate and dynamic calculation of volumes of excavations for optimisation of the expense of materials, and also 3D visualisation for understanding of influence of the project on environment.

Working out AutoCAD Civil 3D is carried out by company Autodesk. This product intended for engineers, working in the field of industrial and civil building, and also for architects, gives the functional and tool means necessary at all stages of performance of the project.

Its dynamic 3D the model allows to develop faster twice almost projects of roads, buildings of territories, the main pipelines, heating mains, networks of the water drain and other constructions. Surfaces, sections, profiles, notes and other elements are dynamically interconnected that simplifies an estimation of set of alternatives and helps to make more well-founded decisions.

In Civil 3D the idea of through automation of process of designing, from geodetic researches before registration of working drawings is realised.

Let's consider geodetic researches.
In AutoCAD Civil 3D there is a full set of functions for work with the topographical data. Styles

Points
Points are created with use of various coordinate geometry and graphic methods. In Civil 3D points are a model part that allows to use them in the course of working out and the project analysis.

Surfaces
Surfaces can be formed from various 3D the data. For them it is possible to carry out calculation of horizontals, biases, marks and reservoirs. Results of calculation of surfaces are updated at once after their editing. In Civil 3D surfaces are automatically updated at addition or change, and also at removal of the initial data.

Sites
Dynamic communications provide timely updating of sets of sites. In Civil 3D sites unite in one topology, therefore changes in one site conduct to changes in the next.

Lines
For lines modelling of direct sites, turns and spiral transitive curves is provided. At editing of a line by means of the graphic interface or the tabular editor designations on working drawings are automatically updated also. Sharing of lines and profiles in several drawings is supported.

Profiles
Profiles are taken from set of surfaces on the basis of line geometry. Appearance of profiles and an inscription on them are defined by the established style. Designations of profiles are updated in the project dynamically.

Modelling of corridors
Generation of dynamic model of any project of an auto- or the railway is based on such elements of design, as lines, profiles, bends, and also on the criteria included in components of the project. Change of any element participating in model, leads to recalculation of volumes, surfaces, sites and other elements of a corridor. Civil 3D allows to edit separate stations and groups of stations in a mode of real time.

Designing of pipelines
Sewer and drainage systems are under construction in the form of the dynamic coordinated networks. Pipes and other designs are edited with use both graphic, and manual input. The product allows to build working drawings of networks of pipelines in the plan, profiles and cuts. Users have joint access to the information on networks systems of pipelines, such as a material or the size, from external settlement appendices.

1. The geospatial analysis at conceptual designing
Integration of the raster and geospatial data helps to make optimum decisions at early stages of the project. For visualisation of an ecosystem of the project you can take images and models of a surface from service Google Earth™, and also from other sources. You also can import the geospatial data, such as soil types, the information on land tenure and ecological restrictions, for the fast analysis of possible influence of various design alternatives.

2. Geodetic researches and systems of coordinates
Possibilities of processing of the geodetic data are completely built in in AutoCAD® Civil 3D® 2009. The wide range of problems – import of field magazines, processing by a method of the least squares, the task and transformation of system of coordinates, editing of results of shooting, automatic creation of figures of shooting and surfaces is supported. Thus it is provided through designing: points, shooting and surface figures can be used throughout all process of designing that excludes necessity of manual transformation of systems of coordinates and carrying over of the data from the geodetic appendix in the appendix for designing. Introduction in the project of the data of shooting will lead to automatic updating of elements of the project.

3. Profiling and dynamic interrelations
Models of difficult surfaces in AutoCAD Civil 3D maintain dynamic relations with the initial data – horizontals, characteristic lines, models of corridors and objects of profiling. Surfaces are used as a basis at creation of profiles, sections and corridors. Any changes of the initial data lead to automatic updating of surfaces and references that promotes economy of time and reduction of quantity of errors.

The tooling for profiling allows to model surfaces for a projection of a profile of any type. Graphic and tabular functions of management by profiling are convenient in use. Profiling functions use dynamic interrelation between models of corridors and lines/profiles.

4. Information modelling of roads
On the basis of the set local design criteria it is possible to carry out fast construction of dynamic plans and profiles. The dependences defined in criteria continue to operate and by optimisation of lines – for example, elementwise and on tops of corners.

Simulars of corridors allow to create intellectual models of roads and other linear objects. At modelling of corridors for objects of different function the adjusted components of cross-section section named elements of a design are used. At the description of transitions in corridors direct use of lines, figures of shooting, characteristic lines and polylines AutoCAD is supposed. Function of interactive construction of crossroads allows to create complex models of crossings of roads which reflect all changes in the project. Models of corridors can be used at creation of design surfaces, calculation of volume of excavations, sheets of materials, constructions of cross-section sections and in other problems.

5. Intellectual configuration of pipelines
Systems of the economic-household and storm water drain are under construction on the basis of rules. Pipes and wells edit with use both graphic, and manual input; for them there is also a function of check of crossings. You can form drawings of pipeline networks on plan views, profiles and sections. For the analysis of a pipeline network, for example, on marks, the sizes, a bias and type it is possible to export the data to external appendices for calculations, or use the built-in AutoCAD Civil 3D expansion Hydraflow Extensions

6. Hydraulic and hydrological calculations
Using the built in means, it is possible to carry out predesign and postdesign hydrological calculations. Under hydrological schedules in AutoCAD Civil 3D it is possible to analyze models of pipeline networks, water throughput pipes and channels for the purpose of a finding of the optimal design decision. Besides, you can form high-grade reports for a presentation to supervising bodies.

7. Teamwork and synchronisation of changes
Design groups can work over the same coordinated and actual model. Work remains coordinated throughout all project – from carrying out surveying before release of the working documentation. By means of external references AutoCAD, labels to the data and Autodesk Vault, participants of the project can share such elements, as surfaces, lines and pipelines. One element can be processed in several design procedures. Design changes are synchronised in uniform model that leads to automatic updating of set of drawings.

8. Dynamic sheets of materials and calculation of volumes of excavations
The information on purchased products can be directly imported in AutoCAD Civil 3D for appointment of costs to objects of the drawing, including objects AutoCAD and elements of model AutoCAD Civil 3D. Automatic calculation of quantity of purchased products and creation of reports is supported.

Possibilities of calculation of moving of earthen weights and volume of excavations allow engineers and contractors in detail to plan civil work. At modification of project AutoCAD Civil 3D can quickly generate diagrammes of moving of earthen weights which allow to receive representation about distances, volumes and directions of moving of a ground, an arrangement of open-cast mines and unloading places.

9. Styles, standards and working drawings
Standards are the major component of the project. The library of styles in which the standards accepted in the various countries are considered, allows to supervise almost all elements of appearance of drawings, such as colours, types of lines, intervals of horizontals and a label. In AutoCAD Civil 3D also there is a possibility of creation of own styles to provide registration of drawings on state standards and standards of the enterprises. The graphic environment based on styles helps to automate reception of typical working drawings with observance of all standards. Communication of drawings with model also is with each other provided through external references and labels to the data. At entering change in model all drawings connected with it are updated.

10. Compatibility of given
Access to the data and their import from various sources are very important for designing of objects of an infrastructure. By means of AutoCAD Civil 3D you can import and export the data between CAD and GIS in standard formats, such as DWF™, Google Earth, LandXML, DGN and SDF.
